About LAPP

LAPP Insulator Company was founded in 1916 by the late John S. LAPP, a pioneer in the design and manufacture of high voltage insulators.

From the outset, LAPP’s history has been one of using and extending the limits of manufacturing high voltage insulators. During the war years of the 1940’s, LAPP developed insulators for aircraft and field radio communications, as well as complex components for newly developed radar systems.

During the 1950’s the American National Standards (ANSI) started, a time when LAPP was entering manufacture of high voltage bushings. Many patents followed as new insulator designs were required for system voltages of 230 kV and higher during 1960’s and 70’s. Two of the most notable patents being the Horizontal Vee -- an assembly of suspension and strut insulators that made streamlined, compact overhead transmission line construction possible, and the Resistance Graded Glaze, RG® -- permitting insulators to function effectively in areas of severe contamination.

Today, customers comment that "LAPP is probably the most progressive porcelain manufacturing plant in North America". Why? Because of LAPP’s new workcell production flow and state-of-the-art pug mills and kilns. These manufacturing concepts integrated with LAPP’s ISO-9001 Quality Program allows for manufacture and marketing of high quality insulator products in a culture of continuous improvements.

LAPP, with its long history of product innovation and improvements, is an industry leader in the design and production of quality high voltage insulators. LAPP Insulator Company prides itself on being among the largest insulator manufacturers in the world with modern factories located in the states of New York and Georgia.
